2 Mètre

THE EPIC OF THE METER THROUGH THE SEARCH OF

THE WORLD

Who might imagine that the innovative who was the creator of a coherent measurement system might have been the first Emperor of China some twenty-two centuries ago? Who might conceive that the Einstein Relativity might have disturbed the definition of the meter?

And yet …

The forerunners took over after the innovative and his melodies : Erathosthene and his column, Magellan and his voyage, Fernel and his horse-drawn carriage, Richer and his pendulum, Newton and the dynasty of the Cassinis and their controversy, La Condamine and Bouguer with their epic in Peru, Maupertuis with his adventures at the Polar Circle and his Lapp mistress.

As for them, the protagonists could only have worked in the spectacular setting of the French Revolution.

At last the magicians appeared : Einstein and his relativity, Max Planck and the Quantum Mechanics, and we must not forget the forest materialization of the 2000 Green Meridian from Dunkirk to Perpignan.

4 Digues

THE FLOOD BARRIERS OF SHAME

At the beginning of his occupational life the author was the witness of a French technological tragedy due to incompetence.

He was then called for as the Head of the main international hydrological survey in the Bengal Gulf by the U.N.O.

Back to France he discovered that technological negligence could lead to natural and yet predictable disasters.

Sollicitated for a new mission in Bangladesh, he discovered that under a humanitarian pretext the French government simply organized a genocide by injecting billions of dollars in an intervention while mystifying the state leaders of the seven most industrialized nations in the world.

Likewise could the disastrous consequenses of the 2004 Christmas tsunami  have been avoided?

Must we denounce the lethal thechnological drifting and persist in the way according to the attitude of the three monkeys of wisdom belonging to the Chinese tradition : see nothing and hear nothing and say nothing?

6 Ténèbre

THE SHADE OF THE EIGHTH DAY

Who might concede for Charles the Bold to be the first one responsible for water pollution?

And yet?

The “Sang des Bourguignons” that poisoned the lake of Morat in 1476 reappeared at the beginning of the 20th century like a chronic and infectious disease. It invaded first Switzerland and eventually the whole world.

Pollution at last detected, spread over the four fundamental elements dear to the Ancient Times : water and earth and air and fire. In that last setting the climate change takes its place. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice managed by a master was ousted by the Byghyakoul man who was not controlled.

The politics inaugurated by Governor Louis Mouttet in Saint-Pierre of the Martinique created emulators. Politicians, the exhibitionists of ecology, followed the way leading to the Shade of the Eighth Day, as the Saharian drawings recalling the fertility and abundance of the herds of yesteryear on a soil become barren today attest it.

How to react? Will the examples shake ourselves out of our torpor?

Pharaoh saved Egypt from chaos; Bonaparte founded the right science; Marie Curie turned waste into wealth …

This is the true story of human ecology.

 8 Boule de Canton

THE IVORY BALL

Let’s study the chronology of the main events concerning the Earth by granting a time contraction of sixty years of exixtence to our planet from its origin to our time of life.

The first piece of fireworks giving birth to our world ends at the age of four and the second one giving birth to life ends at the age of eight. Chlorophyll pushes the Earth out of its first dead end at the age of twenty-one. Oxygen spreads into the ocean waters during thirteen years and concentrates into the atmosphere during the next thirteen years. The plant kingdom charges on to the continents at the age of fifty-five. Dinosaurs are annihilated at the age of fifty-nine after a supremacy of two years. The Golden Age of the elaboration of coal and petroleum respectively reach their acme at the age of about fifty-six and fifty-eight.

Mankind astounds by its unsignificance : it appears two weeks before the fated term of sixty years, toils the soil at the beginning of the last hour, gives way to the frantic plundering of its habitat during the last minute and only disposes of five ultimate seconds in order to save our “Blue Planet”.

Actually pollution has begun to extend at a worldwide scale, hundreds of vegetal and animal species are dying out, the human population is exploding in a perverted climate. Does not such an important tsunami merit deep meditation?

10 Tétraméron

THE TETRAMERON

During the most powerful outbreak of the plague epidemic that slaughtered the third of mankind during the Middle Ages, a few people retired in a villa in the surroundings of Florence. Everyday they meant to tell a story in turns during their sojourn of common life.

The substantive “Decameron” forged on this occasion from two Greek nouns evokes the ten days during which these ten people met, should it only be to forget during a short spell of time the dreadful plague that led to the end of the Middle Ages .

Well, the contemporary situation is to recall the atmosphere anterior to what existed before the “Decameron”. Because nowadays we must feel vague and worrying dangers hovering on our world. Four grown-ups, two women ant two men, at the same time scientists and historians and scholars met for four days in a retired place. Thus, that gave birth to the “Tetrameron”.

But there the parallelism stops. As to the contrary of the hundred frivolous short stories presented in the “Decameron” the sixteen stories of the “Tetrameron” deal with scientific topics, thus creating an arrangement susceptible to prompt the reader to meditation.

12 Ecologie au clair de lune

ECOLOGY IN THE MOONLIGHT

Given the definitions of new units and the laying down of new laws we do obtain the following principles and consequence and conclusion :

FOUNDING PRINCIPLES OF THE SCIENCE OF CLIMATE CHANGE

FIRST PRINCIPLE : THERMODYNAMIC CHANGE

The Earth undergoes the anthropogenic period the operating of which is adiabatic and irreversible. Each forcing is due to human activity which induces a positive and destabilizing retroaction.

SECOND PRINCIPLE : DEPLETION OF NATURAL RESOURCES

During the anthropogenic period the natural resources disappear according to a decreasing hyperexponential law of quantity versus time. They include : fauna and the thin pedologic stratum of soil which is the indispensible support of life and the Mendeleev table elements.

THIRD PRINCIPLE : PERVERSION OF THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT

During the anthropogenic period the greenhouse effect increases according to a hyperexponential law function of equivalent-inhabitants. The greenhouse effect involves two components; firstly carbon dioxide alone and secondly the other grouped vectors existing before industrialization or being newcomers. The greenhouse effect falls under three areas (human and animal and industrial/agricultural).

MAIN GLOBAL CONSEQUENCE :

Subsequent to the six major geological extinguishments belonging to the Earth history the anthropogenic extinguishment began some twenty-thousand years ago leading to the disappearance of higher mammals and eventually extending to genera and families and orders and classes of animals. This anthropogenic extinguishment is fifty times shorter than the shortest major natural extinguishment and two-thousand and fifty times faster than the most severe one. The phenomenon is accelerating.

CONCLUSION OF IMMEDIATE IMPLEMENTATION :

The conclusion implies an immediate implementation to control climate change because it is impossible for the human species to adapt.
